Instagram Is The Best Thing That Happened To Photography

That’s not my opinion, it’s basically the statement put through this video. Although it’s probably not, it’s a cool movement.

I use instagram (add me: @solsticeretouch < shameless plug), but I tend to shy away from using their built in filters. If I do any color work at all, it’s done prior to uploading to my account.

Though I’m not a fan of the random filters, I do like the community of sharing, following, and discovering people just based on snapshots and photographs. It’s a casual documentation of someone’s life without the annoying facebook status updates that you really don’t care for. Visual networking, as I like to call it.

It hasn’t reached it’s peak yet, but it creates an interesting look into how this approx. 2 year old app/company has become so large in such a short time.

There are still many people who do not use it, but wherever you go, you see it catching on.

Though with the limitations of having to own a smart phone to get instagram, it puts it out of reach to many, still. Though, it’s really a matter of time. With Facebook’s recent acquisition, maybe a computer portal will open up in the future. Probably not, but you never know. Especially if they are after a larger audience.

Just some film for thought.

Facebook - twitter - all text + only smart phones = instagram
